Does Hollison supply products or services?
Hollison provides both products and services. Products include the collection and sampling technology, sample preparation devices, detection instrumentation, consumables  and software. Hollison also offers a fully managed solution incorporating its products and is available on a per test pricing structure eliminating the need for capital expenditures.

What is unique about your sampling approach?
The Hollison patent pending sampling technology enables the continuous collection from the entire bulk item such as grain. Unlike traditional sampling that uses a grab sample which only represent a very small fraction of the bulk item the Hollison approach yields a much more statistically relevant sample. Certain contaminants in grain for example exist in highly localized “pockets” so a grab sample can easily miss the contamination; using the Hollison technology the entire batch of grain is sampled.

What contaminants can you detect?
Biological, Chemical and Radiological contaminants can all be detected either individually or simultaneously. The detection technologies utilized can be deployed in a lab, on a production line, at a storage/transportation point or in the field. Remote devices are FIPS compliant using digital certificates and can utilize cellular or satellite network connectivity with encryption for uploading test results. Commonly request contaminants are available as well as specifically requested contaminants.

How do you detect biological contamination?
Biological contaminants such as bacteria, molds and viruses are detected using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technology. PCR technology will specifically identify small sequences of DNA that are present in specific strains of contaminants, e.g. E. coli O157:H7. The PCR technology can also be used to detect Genetic Modification (GM). Hollison specifically uses low cost consumables and instrumentation that can easily be remotely deployed.

How do you detect chemical contamination?
Chemical contaminants which are volatile such as fumigants, solvents and certain insecticides are detected using headspace sampling followed by gas chromatographic separation and then selective detection. The detection technology can easily be deployed remotely thanks to MEMS technology.

How do you detect radioactive contamination?
Radioactive contamination is detected using Sodium Iodide (NaI) scintillation for gamma emitting isotopes, we employ isotope identification technology (Multi Chanel Analyzers – MCA) so that specific isotopes are identified and classified. Alternative or complimentary detection technologies such as Geiger-Muller can also be utilized for specific contaminants.

How fast are the contamination tests?
All test results can be obtained in less than 1 hour, some tests are in the order of seconds or minutes while others are in the range of 20-30 minutes. Some traditional microbiological tests do not yield results for 72 hours, PCR results are obtained in about 20-30 minutes. The aim is always to provide test results prior to food items or beverages leaving a production line, factory or packing facility avoiding costly recalls.

What does the software do?
The Hollison CIMS™ application allows the collection and tracking of test data results either from within an entity or across multiple entities. Typically tests are performed and data results recorded when ownership changes (chain-of-custody) or at specified HACCPs. Data is uploaded automatically (or manually) from the detection instrument.

Can I use the software independently?
Yes. While the CIMS™ application is designed to be seamlessly integrated into the total Hollison solution (collection, sampling, sample preparation and detection) the application can be run as a standalone web-based Contamination Information Management System (CIMS™).

How secure is your web-based software?
Hollison employs the same technology and standards for security as used by the banking and financial institutions for on-line banking. Its SaaS is hosted at redundant AAA Data Centers in geographically disperse locations. Where US Export Regulations allow we utilize 256-bit AES encryption.
