Hollison utilizes the best-in-class detection and identification technologies for contaminants. These technologies are specifically chosen for their sensitivity, speed of analysis and the ability to operate out of a conventional lab environment. Recent developments in technologies such as MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems) and miniaturization allow the development of these field-based instruments.

  • Biological detection – Novel Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)

  • Chemical detection – Gas Chromatography (GC) with specific detection

  • Radiological detection – Sodium Iodide (NaI) gamma scintillation and/or Geiger-Muller (GM) detection

  • Physical detection – Metal detection and/or imaging via X-ray, Terahertz or Millimeter wave technologies

The speed of analysis from the detection technology employed allows test results to be generated much faster than traditional test methods. A biological assay for E. coli O157:H7, for example, can be performed in about 30-40 minutes as opposed to the traditional 72 hours for a standard microbiological assay. This means that a contamination test can be performed and results obtained before a product is shipped, eliminating costly recalls.

All assays can also be performed by non-specialized personnel with minimal training on a cost effective routine basis.  Data from these contamination tests are uploaded to our secure web-based software via wireless (cellular or satellite) or wired (copper or fiber) networks employing best-in-class encryption and security.
